Computer Diagnostics – Code scanning tools are essential when diagnosing automotive engine and transmission problems. At Jim Dowell, we use the most innovative diagnostic scan tools to determine if your vehicle’s electronic and mechanical systems are working properly.
Transmission Rebuild – A transmission rebuild is the overhaul of the unit’s worn parts without replacing the entire transmission. The transmission is removed from the vehicle, disassembled and examined. The transmission is rebuilt, replacing damaged hard parts, and installing new gaskets, bushings, case bearings, shifter rods, and seals. The transmission is reinstalled in the vehicle, and the vehicle is road tested for 100 miles assuring everything is working properly.
Transmission Service – Consider regular maintenance to avoid major transmission repairs. We recommend servicing your transmission every 35,000 miles. Transmission service consists of the removal of old-contaminated fluid and the replacement of the transmission filter and gasket.
Transmission Flush – A transmission flush is the process of removing all of the contaminated fluid from the transmission and the torque converter. It requires a specialized machine that pumps new fluid through the transmission, replacing the old fluid.
Clutch Replacement – The clutch is the device that engages and disengages the transmission. Replacement of the clutch over time is necessary due to loss of friction which causes a slow engagement (slipping). When replacing the clutch, the transmission is separated from the engine, making the flywheel accessible for resurfacing. During the clutch replacement process, we replace the clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, and pilot bearing.
Flywheel Resurfacing – Flywheel resurfacing is the process of removing the flywheel’s uneven surface and groves by grinding it to a perfect machined-flat surface in order to maximize the life of the new clutch.
